Our Culture

We also take the long view when it comes to caring
for our team members and the local community.

At Greenwood, one of our core values is community. This fundamental value influences everything we do and the business decisions we make. We take care of our team, our internal community, giving everyone the opportunities, resources, and support they need to provide the utmost in guest satisfaction.

We also believe it is our responsibility to give back and invest in our properties’ local communities — and we do so by supporting charitable programs, using sustainably sourced products, and reducing our consumption — because what we do today will have a profound impact tomorrow.

In August 2016, Ambassadors at every Greenwood property rallied to support their colleagues at our three hotels in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which experienced major flooding that damaged thousands of residences, including those of numerous new Greenwood Ambassadors at the Wyndham Garden, Renaissance, and Watermark hotels.

Across the portfolio, our Ambassadors were determined to help these new members of our community recover. Aid came in many forms, including clothing drives, a “Rescue for the Bayou” tasting dinner, “pie-in-the-face” and “dress down” days, and a Greenwood-led GoFundMe campaign and $10,000 corporate donation.

We’re proud of our Ambassadors and the “Spirit to Serve” that is at the heart of each and every Greenwood property.

Among the community charitable initiatives at Hilton Harrisburg is Très Bonne Année. Très Bonne Année, French for “a very good year,” is a series of wine and food events held annually to benefit Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. The event was created by Greenwood principal William Kohl in 2000 when he was the hotel’s Vice President and General Manager.

Since then, more than $5.5 million has been raised for children’s science programming and cultural events at Whitaker. In addition to donating food, wine and service expenses estimated at $26,000 annually, more than 560 managerial hours are volunteered to organize and execute this successful annual event.

In addition, our team serves lunch monthly at a homeless shelter, has built a fence at the local Humane Society, raises money for United Way, mentors students in Harrisburg schools, serves on non-profit committees and local boards of directors, all in our ongoing commitment to make the greater Harrisburg region a better place to live and work.
